Why women wear bodysuits
Bodysuits can be skin-tight or relaxed, and due to its tension from shoulders to crotch, they can hug your curves as the perfect foundation, and on top so you can pair with any bottoms you want. Wearing a bodysuit may sound new to you, but it is nothing complicated.
The real question lies in— do I need to wear bras and panties with bodysuits? Bodysuit is a smart garment that combines underwear and top in one. It is made for convenience, extra fabric underneath but results in discomfort, but if you prefer some extra support or coverage, you can always wear underwear with your bodysuit.
For tight-fitting or backless bodysuits, nipple covers pasties are your best alternative to wire bras for a streamlined silhouette. Bodysuits can be worn alone as a fashion statement, or simply as a layering piece. You can style your bodysuit with jeans, skirts, shorts and work pants, basically any bottom to create outfits for different occasions. We will share more styling tips in the future, you can check out our Instagram for inspirations.
Bodysuits and Swimsuits are not the same, but some bodysuits are made of swimsuit materials. Look into the material to find out if they are suitable for swimming— being stretchy and chlorine resistant is very important to avoid colour fading. The material also has to be breathable such that after repeated use in water, the bodysuit will not lose its shape. Bodysuits are made to solve a problem— end the endless tucking and re-tucking.
No more annoying creases and bulky fabric trapped at your waistline. Daywear: Bodysuits can be worn for day or night! Some bodysuits are more suited for daytime because of their material or style, while others may feel more sexy and fun for a night out, or even to wear as lingerie. Personally, I think you can mix and match as you please. For both practical reasons and fashion reasons, it stays tucked in and offers a seamless look.
As noted above, another purpose of the bodysuit is for personal pleasure and seduction. Read: SEXY. I have always been pretty slim and tall, and sizing is an issue. Bodysuits never tend to be long enough and do not provide any support, so they make me look pretty flat in the chest. I had one black body suit that worked well under a dress so I would just leave it unsnapped and tucked into my underwear, or cut the enclosures off and tuck into my stockings.
Not ideal at all but worth it for that particular need. Perhaps offering a tall version would be useful. I love bodysuits. I wear them a lot in summer and throw on a pair of shorts or a skirt over the top and rarely use them as undergarments. I like to get ones that are versatile hence not lacy so I can wear them casually or throw on a skirt, nice jewelry and heels and glam it up. I like backless ones. I prefer well-made ones as cheaper ones can have awkward crotch clasps and be ill fitting on my torso.
Now I find them at Urban outfitters or Forever But not meant for outside use. Great idea but it does not work for me. If you want to give them a go, there are MANY brands — from lingerie brands to fashion brands — that make bodysuits. I suggest trying some on for yourself, and seeing what makes you and your body say hurray!
Get creative. Wear a sheer style with a cool lace bra underneath. Or try a turtleneck style under a blazer. Wear one around the house, just for you, and see how you feel.
Below are just a few to test out and try. They make super soft and stretchy bodysuits in mesh and lace for many sizes.
They even make a few awesome plus size specific bodysuits , which I featured in this Bustle Facebook Live segment about lingerie for sizes 24 and up. Made and designed right here in NYC! Wolford — These bodysuits are expensive for a reason. They are the epitome of stylish and wearable bodysuits, made of some of the most amazing materials you will ever put onto your body. Bluebella — This UK brand makes some of the sexiest bodysuits at the best prices.
The designer is a very cool woman, and her daring designs make my jaw drop without dropping hundos. Commando — This seamless brand makes really great simple, smooth styles plus a few new fashionable styles that are easy for layering and wearing out and about. Plus, they are made in the USA! Felina — If you want a simple t-shirt or tank top style, or a sexy style, this well priced brand has a few great pieces to start with.
Personally, I want to try the Ribbed Racerback style! There are SO many more amazing lingerie brands that make bodysuits. Casual, smart, sexy, formal or just plain stylish. The body-hugging style—no matter what size or shape you are, is a wonderful and comfortable way to show off your waist and celebrate your curves.
Seriously, what can go wrong? This world of style and practicality must be good for something. The tucked-top can be hard to rock, as a loose shirt or singlet often bunches. Leaving you constantly rearranging your outfit to keep the look you confidently left the house with.
I wear them to work too! There really is no end to how you can style the body suit for any occasion. Straight from sexy to corporate. Saving you from having to remove your entire outfit. If you consider this your look—try a simple bodysuit with some smart pants and a chic blazer.
Smart, and not too casual. Especially if you pair the ensemble with some heels. You can easily find one in a T-shirt style for the torso, while still having the convenience and security of the tucked top. Why not pair a laced or cotton bodysuit with some rolled-up mum-jeans, a belt, boots, sunglasses and a round hat?
A perfect look for those Instagram festival snaps!
