Paragons tend to do compassionate things, right or wrong. Renegades tend to do forceful or toughguy things. Neither are supposed to be "evil," since Shepard is always the hero, never an anti-hero or villain.
That being said, I do wish they'd jettison the binary morality systems altogether in future games. Keep the moral choices in there, but do away with some kind of meta-game "score" that's based on opaque judgements from the writers. Just give characters a range of human responses.
